"Islam is not
merely a creed, not only an ideology, but more emphatically a complete,
comprehensive and inclusive Code of Life, covering both this mundane existence
as well as the life hereafter. As aptly stated by Abdul Rahman Azzam:
‘Islam is a
Faith, a Law, a Way of Live, a "Nation" and a "State" with a system of
Jurisprudence that is continually evolving for the administration of this
world and the satisfaction of human needs under the sovereignty of our
Creator. Islam’s Kingdom of God on earth, with this faith, its laws, piety,
rituals, society and state, is the prelude and means to afterlife.’
Being as it is, Islam is not and cannot be a product of human ingenuity. It is a revelation from Allah, the Creator and Sovereign, revealed through His chosen Messenger (s.a.w.)[Prophet Mohammad] for the guidance of man in the governance of God’s Kingdom on earth. The sum total of this Revelation is contained in the Qur’an, a book of Guidance, which address itself to the totality of the human situation, internal as well as external. This guidance of the Holy Book together with the genuine record of the way it was carried out by the Messenger of Allah through whom it was revealed are in the basic source of code of Moral and Ethical Conduct for the Community of believers or Muslim Ummat.
A Muslim is a person who honestly believes
in and professes faith in the oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Muhammad,
who said:
"Ash hadu alla ilaha illallah, wa ash hadu anna Muhammadar
rasulullah" (I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, and I bear
witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah)
A Muslim is a person who lives in perfect peace with others.
A Muslim is
one who makes peace with God and man. Peace with God implies complete
submission to His will, and with man implies not only to refrain from doing
evil or injury to another but also to do good to him. The chief characteristics
of a Muslim are love and sympathy."1
